Or so my dad says, channel is blank, not being picked up on LG tvs in the house, but on a tecknicka box from the UK (Tesco). Any insight to what it might be?

SSU - System Software Updates, Saorview's planned data/engineering stream for approved receiver OTA updates supplied by the manufacturers. It's been testing on and off since early last year.

Freeview has a similar engineering stream - http://www.dtg.org.uk/industry/download_schedule.php

Appears as a blank channel on some non-approved receivers

So, the fact it doesnt appear on the LG Tvs may suggest that they will be able to avail of the feature? Bearing in mind the lg tvs were bought from up north with freeview hd certification

Most likely only Saorview approved receivers will be updated this way

Contacted Panasonic last week regarding firmware updates for a TX-PF37X10 (2009 vintage) and they advised that updates would be available over-the-air on Saorview. I can receive the SSU channel OK but do any of you knowledgeable folks on this forum know if the channel is currently active? I now that in the UK a list of the updates carried on Freeview is available but is there a similar list for Saorview?

There's been no announcement or information from RTÉNL regarding SSU and no webpage listing an update schedule, probably safe to assume it's in a testing phase.

Your Panasonic TX-PF37X10 isn't on the Saorview approved list of receivers, I would be surprised if non-approved receivers were updated via the SSU engineering channel but you never know. Did they specifically mention that particular model for OTA updates or were they referring to Saorview approved models in particular?

I mentioned the model no. in my original query but the CS rep didn't specifically refer to that model in her reply. It was more like a blanket statement that if an update is available it will be available OTA on Saorview. TBH I'm inclined to be sceptical myself.

Is this the same Panasonic the would not accomodate customers in this part of the world with TVs that had MPEG4 disabled on terrestial but enabled on satellite?

Probably!...but I've got two Panasonics and both can receive Saorview although admittedly the older one does not get the MHEG text.
