    Hi guys,

    I am considering buying a audi a3. It's a 2006 2.0tdi sline.
I would love to hear any information about this car from people in the know.
I'd love to know about fuel economy, trouble giving etc.!?

I hope to hear from you ASAP.

    Thanks 😀

I believe the 1.9 engines are more reliable than the 2.0. Think some 2 litre units had oil pump issues which were pricey to put right, nice car all the same I had a 05 1.9 tdi and was quite happy with it, Wud have preferred an s line obviously though!

Oil pump issues do not apply to the 2.0TDI engine as fitted to the A3 or other Golf based cars as they do not have a balance shaft which is the source of the problems in the Passats and Audi A4/A6.

I owned a 2007 one and girlfriend has a 2006 one. Only issue mine had was the throttle body failed. Cost about 700 to put right. Wouldn't be common for it to fail but not uncommon either if you get me.. Audi upgraded the part so if it did go you wouldn't have to worry about it happening again. Hers has had a new battery fitted and a problem with fuel lines. Water getting in I think. Both of these were unusual enough I think and don't reflect on the car.

One thing to watch for is the injectors. They are prone to failure. I used to put a bottle of injector cleaner/dipethane through mine every so often to keep them clean as possible and to try and avoid any problems. Not saying this would prevent anything but can do no harm. I may have heard that Audi have done a recall to replace injectors this year, I'd check it out.

Mine had, and hers does too, a vibration. It felt like the engine was popping and misfiring causing a vibration to go through the car. Cant describe it, but if you felt it you would know what I mean straight away. Nothing to worry about, I believe it's caused by a duel mass flywheel hopping in the transmission.

Nice solid cars otherwise, engine is quite loud, but you get used to it. Overtaking is a doddle as there is quite a lot of torque on tap.

Can't think of anything else. Pm me if you want to ask me anything.

If the duel mass fly wheel is actin up its better fixed sooner rather that later, leave it to long and bits will start to brake down and it won't just be a dmf to replace it could potentially ruin the gearbox.if the dmf did go there is the option of going for a single mass fly wheel

Great replies lads. Appreciate them alot.
I forgot to mention that its automatic too.
I heard you use more diesel with automatic?
Any problems with this gear box? I can imagine it to be expensive to fix?

Important for me is mileage per tank, any of you guy know what you get from a full tank on average?

    Thanks again :-)

mines a 1.9tdi s-line and get around 52mpg combined, great car, only trouble is the flywheels can be very prone to go, and thats around 1k to put right. And heard the 2.0's can be very troublesome regarding turbos etc etc....maby look for 1.9?

Does it have to be the diesel? if you dont want a 4 figure repair sum down the line and you do less than 15,000kms, you might be better off with a petrol.
