I know that in most departments the late penalty is 5% per day. I was just wondering is this the case for weekends too? I had an essay due Friday and won't be able to hand it in until Monday. Will I lose 15% so?

p.s. It's the archaeology department to be precise.

I know that in English we were given the guideline that you lose 2% a day up to a max of 10% per week as opposed to 14% per week until your max mark is reduced to 40% so I think that implies that weekends don't count. Not 100% certain however.

Not in NUIG, but that's a nice system you have.

On my course, it's a a maximum of a pass grade if you are more than a week late.

Bit late but you should Email the lecturer you have. Some are sound down there so don't worry about it. If you have to turn it in, do that in time! Otherwise they definitely will not help with it.

Word of warning, if your deadline is on a Friday your lecturer might decide to go home early for the weekend meaning any assignments submitted in the 15 or so minutes before the deadline are as good as 3 days late.

This is absolutely a non-problem. If there is a deadline and your lecturer has gone home early its entirely their fault and they will literally never penalise you for such. If it's online submission you have definite proof too.

It happened to me. Saw the lecturer leaving the concourse at quarter-to, when I got up the tower the dropbox was empty. I walked around and eventually found a member of staff who phoned the lecturer and told him there was "a student here with an assignment for you, at five past"

tbf I don't actually know if I was docked marks because I had to wait about 6 months for him to mark it and you don't get an itemised grade.
