Make sure to carry the ball in the arm not going into contact first.

Go in low and drive upwards with your shoulder, turn around to present the ball as you're going to ground.

When are you loosing it most, immediately at contact? Or on the way to ground?

First of all i've been told i run in too high..
I'd get tackled, then as im pushing the ball back it'll be poached

Yeah, as others have said you need to go into contact lower, protect ball in both hands, drop a shoulder and push. When going to the ground turn your body so your head and feet are parallel to touchline if you can. All you can do then is present the ball back along the ground.

sounds like your getting ripped while trying to go to ground. Your probably leaving one hand free to either hand off or support yourself on your fall, which is leaving it easier for you to be ripped. Your knee/ hip /shoulder routine may need to he worked on.

It may be just a case of slow support ruckers from your side as well. If so, try presenting with two hands and don't release until your sure.

You may be running into blind alleys with no support. If you're getting to the floor and presenting clean ball that should be enough most of the time. Maybe get into the habit of wriggling a bit before you place it back if and when you find yourself isolated.

If your loosing the ball as you push it back it sounds like your presenting the ball too soon or running into contact with no support! when you make the hit try hold your feet for a few seconds pumping your legs hard, to give your team mates a chance to get to you! As said above lower the body and drop the shoulder!! and hold on with two hands!!! when you hit the ground try and rotate your body to face your team mates and stretch out as far as possible! try get into the 12-6 position!!

    Fight, Feet and Finish.

Once in contact, fight by twisting and moving so as not to allow any ripping. Keep your legs pumping in contact until either your teammates tell you to drop or you feel you might be held up. Finish as the other posters have said by using the wood chop. Knees, body, place. You generally have a second or two before having to place. Check out youtube vids of contact drills and ask your coach to try one. There are loads of sites out there.

The SH coaches love all their phrases dont they?..

You make it sound like PE. I don't know, hold on for as long as you can...?

Ball in both hands, go in lower. Won't lose the ball as easily and less injuries

In my view there are a few elements to this. The first is 'intensity into contact'. You need to develop the ability to switch on a 5-10 second physical intensity as you receive and go into contact. The minute you get contact you need to drive that intensity into pumping legs THROUGH the tackle. Too many players have a habit of 'dying' when they are tackled. The second is to use that intensity rush to twist and turn your body as the arms wrap you up. Don't let anyone get a firm grip on your ball carrying arm - it's usually the first tackler.

Once you hit the ground you MUST have colleagues who arrive IMMEDIATELY, otherwise all of your efforts are lost.

If you have a chance of breaking the line, then medium high is ok. If you know you will go to ground in a couple of yards, then it is better to go in low and drive up.

Lack of support - end of.
