    Hi,

Anybody know if any of the networks allow you to tether your phone with your pc so you can use internet from laptop without paying a charge everyday you do this?

I'm not referring to the data fee, but a special extra fee they charge for this.

    Many Thanks,
    -B

I'm doing it with O2 right now. Only costs me my own data allowance.

    (S3, not iPhone )

I thought Three didn't allow tethering on contracts started after a certain date??_

I thought Three didn't allow tethering either.

Tesco allow tethering too but it'll not win prizes for speed.

Tesco speeds aren't bad, (not good either !) but if you want a good deal it's worth investigationg. They do 10,000 min to any network, 10,000 texts to any network, 15gb data and cheap calles to landline international. All for €35 a month (no I don't work for them !) oh and you clubcard points everytime you pay your bill.

Three don't allow thethering. I have it but only because I was grandfathered in because I bought my phone before January 2012. They don't allow thethering at all after this date, not even with a charge, they just don't do it.

You can use your phone as a wi-fi hotspot with 3.

Tesco ... 10,000 min to any network, 10,000 texts to any network, 15gb data ... All for €35 a month (no I don't work for them !) oh and you clubcard points everytime you pay your bill.
I'm with Tesco and yes they allow tethering and the allowances are generous, but just to be aware of a few personal gripes.

They now incorrectly advertise their €35 / month deal as "UNLIMITED calls, texts and data" on their site.(the small print in one place spells out the limits on this "UNLIMITED" offer) This is new as I signed up for the original deal where the limits were explicitly stated.

There is a €50 credit-limit over and above the monthly subscription. If you exceed this credit-limit (on your "UNLIMITED" service ), they cut your service. I got a text message saying "service suspended, please ring 1749", but they had bricked the phone! I had to drive to a Tesco shop to sort it out.

Since the one incident I had with exceeding the credit-limit, I have asked for mine to be reduced to €10. Before this one incident the biggest bill I'd had was €36.50 and their 1 cent / minute foreign calls to 127 countries has yet to be bettered.

While tethered, text messages accumulate in the background unseen and to access them I have to un-tether and reboot the phone (Nokia E63)

Yes they do, I tether perfectly fine with no charge with my 4S and laptop. Contract is after January too!

Three don't allow it, and are stopping people doing it recently, so if OP is looking for a company that allows tethering he'd be better off going to one that allows it such as eMobile.

Meteor allow it too obviously. I find the speeds pretty usable when I have to use it

Correct. Three strictly forbid users from tethering in their terms of service. Its on their site. Some business plans may be exempt from this though, I wouldnt know.

That said, a phone doesnt say "HEY GAIS, I'M TETHERING HERE KK?"(unless you've an iphone ^^) when you turn on your hotspot, so three would have to be packet inspecting to work out you were, or at least doing some clever IP filtering(update.microsoft.com wouldnt be so popular for android phones now would it) but really this is all far to much work for them to bother with, I'd highly doubt they pay for the server time.

Where you would run into issues theoretically is if you hit 80GB in a month and were flagged, then they could look deeper and terminate your account or w/e.
