Pre facelift has the old 8v engine with a belt. Post facelift is the 16v engine with a chain.

98 could be either. Is your car pre or post facelift?

Does the engine look like this (old type with belt)

Or like this (new type with chain)

got it, the engine is like your first picture, old style engine. So it has a belt. Thanks for your help mate
