I am getting a new macbook next week. In the mean time I have sold my macbook 13" to someone who is collecting it today. I am doing a time machine backup at the moment. Will I be able to get all my old files onto the new macbook next week using the time machine back up I do today?

Oh and is there a way to wipe the computer without wiping all the programs off?

    Thanks

Probably too late but very easy to transfer the files from you time machine backup.

You can do it straight away when you boot the new laptop or use the migration assistant at a later stage.

Well, it's easy to transfer the files to your new MB from time machine backup.
to wipe the computer without wiping all the programs off, you could try:
Start up from your install disc, go to Disk Utility and select the disk and click erase - to securely erase data click Security Options and Erase Free Space which will entirely wipe your disk, overwriting it with zeros so that no data is recoverable.
Some more info could be found here and here
