Shimano Cassette/Chain/Derailleur mix and match

I've failed to source a spare rear wheel cheaply for my turbo trainer. So what else can I do but take this as a sign that I should treat myself to a wheelset upgrade instead and use the stock rear wheel for the turbo :pac: After much research on here I've decided on Compag Zondas but now I'm trying to identify what is the best cassette I can pick up to go with the new wheels that will fit nicely with my existing groupset.

My bike is an as yet unmodified Cube Peloton Race Compact and it runs a mix of mostly 105 components along with a Tiagra cassette and chain and a Ultegra RD.

I have a Ultegra Rear Derailler (RD-6700SS) and a Tiagra (Super Narrow HG) Chain (CN-4601) and this is currently set up with a Tiagra Cassette (CS-4600) size 12-28T.

Obviously I could just pick up another CS-4600 Cassette but I was hoping someone could explain to me if it would be possible to upgrade to either a 105 CN-5701 11-28T cassette or even an Ultegra CS-6700 11-28T cassette?

My apologies for the messy post and thanks in advance to anyone who can offer some advice.

Yes you can mix and match all Shimano components provided that they are the same speed. Just don't forget to get a Shimano freehub for the zondas

Yeah, just to reiterate all that @Lashed has said, any 10speed Shimano mix 'n match will work, the higher the spec the greater the cost and TBH, its hardly worth going beyond 105 based on cost.

Although the Zondas are Campagnolo wheels, you need to specify that you want them with the Shimano freehub. Also, many of the online retailers only (now ?) sell these wheels as a F/R set, though I gather you want both rather than just a rear. Not sure about Chainreaction cycles - they may sell a single wheel?

That's what I was hoping to hear folks. Having said that I was just looking at the technical docs for the ultegra cassette and it notes:
    Note
    • Do not use the CS-6700 in any combination other than with the CN-7900/CN-7801/CN-6700/CN-6600/CN-5600. Other chains cannot be used as the sizes do not match.

I believe I can assume that since the document is dated 2009 and Tiagra now supports 10 speed that this information is now outdated and I'm still good to go?

P.S. I was aware of the need for Shimano freehub and Bob you're correct it is the pair of wheels I'm looking for but thanks for extra guidance anyway lads.

I'll certainly give them a call so and see what they say but even if I did pick one up I might still go for the Zondas and then try and sell my current set as I could probably offset a lot of the expense that way. They're actually not a bad pair of wheels to be honest and might be bit a wasted one sitting idle and the other on the turbo.
