Which is the better bike

The triban looks the better deal to me. Both are alloy frames but this has a carbon fork which means more comfort over an alloy one. Both are Shimano 2300 which is entry level stuff, but does the job without breaking the bank and the Triban is cheaper (but out of stock on their website).
I've only heard good reviews on the Triban so at that price I don't see what you have to lose.

Once you've been cycling a while the brand snobbery will kick in...

Specialized certainly looks nicer. But is it worth nearly double the Triban? Doubtful.

i have the allez elite, i am very happy with it, although thinking about changing the wheels, nice and fast, climbing is quite easy on it, allez has the tiagra set on it though, which obviously isn't brilliant but i find it quite good tbh

personally i think that other bike is ropey but i think that about all cheapish bikes! having said that, i too own a cheap allez elite road bike which i am happy with ha

So you think the Btwin frame would be fairly rubbish and obviously inferior to the Specialized. I might hold off the Btwin so. I was thinking of using the bike for the next year or so and then upgrading its components to 105 and the wheels to Mavic racing ones.

The Btwin frame is not rubbish. Do a search here & you will see links to reviews where they find the opposite.
