Ford Fiesta 1.4 TDCi Question???

I am seriously thinking of buying a Ford Fiesta 1.4 TDCi and before I do am looking for peoples input…

I'm currently doing a bit of work in the UK but am due home in 6 months where I'll be driving around 500km a week. With this in mind I was thinking of buying a Ford Fiesta 1.4 TDCi. It doesn’t look too bad but its mainly due to the good fuel economy, here are the mpg stats:

    - Combined 68.9
    - Urban 58.9
    - Extra Urban 78.5

I wonder would these stats be near possible driving around the west of Ireland? For example for the combined it says 68.9 but really would I expect to achieve 60 mpg?

In the UK you can pick up a 2012 Ford Fiesta 1.4 TDCi for about £8,500 while in Ireland there about €15,000/16,000. If it is advertised for 8,500 what realistic offer should I put in to start off.. £8,000?

If anyone has any input about the car please feel free to say. The one downside is the boot is quite small, don’t think I'll be able to fit the golf clubs in there! I'm really looking for an efficient, reliable car that’s cheap to run.

If you were to actually be realistic about it it will do around 50mpg. A little more on long trips less around town. I've never owned but at a guess I'd say around. Don't expect to buy the car and get 60mpg all the time. At least if you think around 50mpg anything above it will be a bonus.

AFAIK thats a 67bhp engine. Just don''t try to overtake anything!
Hard to say how reliable it is if its only been around for a year.

A family member traded one recently. Average since new was barely over 40mpg with a good mix of driving. Very weak engine power wise.

So would the 1.6 TDCi be a better option?

Whoops my mistake. That engine has been around since 2008 but discontinued in 2012.
Still I'd personally go with the 95bhp 1.6 TDCI engine. A good bit more power if needed.

My advice would be to not type in black font so people can actually read it

Cheers will look into the 1.6 a little more. Obviously it wont be quite so good on the fuel.

maybe try setting your background to a colour other than black? I guess you wont be able to read my advice anyway so wasting my time.

Boards has a dark theme which looks far better than the default, the OP has set his font colour to be black, which doesn't look well on the dark theme. See attached.

How many miles on average would you get with the 1.6? It cant be as efficient as the 1.4?

Generally speaking is the fiesta seen as a reliable car?

Known for injector seals going, not a small job to do either and like any new PSA engine they seem to weep oil from the turbo/everywhere? Small engined diesels are a false economy imo

With that in mind its still not a bad little runner is it?

The fuel consumption on this car is a massive plus...
