Hi, i am flying to JFK in June on delta and was just wondering do they give out pillows and blankets, what is the food like because someone told me they give out pizza and ice cream :D and do normal 3.5mm headphones work or do you have to get an adapter or buy the headphones on the plane.
    Regards
    Aaron

Yes, they give out pillow and blankets. Actually, there will be one on your seat when you get there, but they usually have spares to give out if you need more than one of each.

Food is typical airline food. A choice between a pasta/veggie dish or a meat/chicken dish. I've flown to/from the US on Delta a boat load of times. I have yet to get "real" pizza or ice cream on any of my trips. They may give them out in first or business class, but the plebs in steerage certainly don't get them. :( The snack they give you before landing can be a strange hybrid of real food and junk food, but it will won't be the real deal.

On domestic flights within US, you have pay for the food that you consume. One of the menu options is a disgusting, freeze dried pizza type thing, but on international flights they will serve you an attempt at real food, for free. Compared to other airlines, Delta's food isn't the worst. They also do not strictly enforce their "your first drink is free, but you have to pay for the rest of them" policy. At least they don't whenever I have flown with them. :D

On international flights, they will also give out freebie headsets, or there'll be one placed on top of your pillow. The slot that you plug them into is two pronged, so if you have your own single pronged set, I am not sure if it will work. Bring them just in case and/or hang onto the ones that they give you, as if you'll be taking any domestic flights within the US, you'll have to pay for them.

There should be a pillow and blanket waiting on your seat when you board, if not simply ask and you'll be given one. Headphones will be in your seat pocket but I usually use my own. They serve a snack an hour and a bit out from your destination & this often appears to be a mini cheese pizza and a small tub of ice cream. The pizza's always had an odd aftertaste imo, a touch of mouthwash about it.

As an aside, I crossed the pond with three different carriers last month and it was an interesting exercise to compare and contrast service levels. United eclipsed EI & Delta by some considerable margin imo - the food being a bit of a revelation for airline grub and the onboard entertainment system delivering a more comprehensive programme than the other two.

Delta offer special meals too, the best food I've ever had on Delta (including a few unexpected upgrades) was when I ordered Asian Vegetarian when flying Dublin-Atlanta. Got an Indian type Mushroom curry, it was fab. You have to pre-order on your booking but can put it in up to a few days before your departure date.

I've flown Delta a lot and have learned not to order the chicken, the sauce will repeat on you for days! The name of the dish varies but the sauce rarely does.

I read online that they give you an adapter to use your own headphones. Is this true?

Yes, in the bag with the free headphones is an adaptor that you can plug your own headphones into.
