Tuition Relief across different tax years

    Hi,

So I am aware that I can claim tax relief on tuition fees up to a maximum of 7000 at 20%. This works out as 1400euro.

The question I have is regarding splitting this relief across different tax years. From the revenue website, they say that for an academic year (e.g. 2012/13) the relief can be claimed in either 2012 or 2013 as desired (regardless of whether the payment was made in 2012 or 2013).

However, can anyone tell me if I can claim a portion of the relief for the 2012 tax year and a portion for 2013 or if I must nominate a single year for the relief?

    Thanks in advance

from what i can remember it has to be claimed in one year and cant be split. Also you wont get the full amount it is reduced. i think for a full time course the first €1250 does not count so if the course cost 7250 you will only get it on 6000
