whirlpool warranty question??

got a present of a whirlpool fridge a few years back just wondering do i need a receipt if anything goes wrong or can they use the serial number?? they do have an 8yr parts warranty yes?? thanks

when they had 8/10 year warranty the appliance had to be registered within a month of purchase, otherwise one year, since they started making appliances in PRC (China) its a two year warranty full stop.
