Good that it wasn't a pedestrian at least. I hope they'll repair the postbox.

The death of a V8 is always a sad occasion. Pity it wasn't a Tiida...

Surely it's too cold for Skimpy Top Syndrome to have been a factor here?

I think makeup being applied in the mirror is a more likely factor.

How would you feel about it you're wage cheque was in that post box? I'd imagine destroying one of these yokes is fairly serious.

Such a lovely postbox was this write-off.

I'd say so. I've heard before about Eircom charging people for damaging telephone poles, I'd imagine An Post would do something similar.

You'd have to. Apart from the utility value, those old postboxes are part of our heritage. I hope they repair it, rather than replacing it with a modern one.

was that an ex royal mail postbox?just seems to be some red under the green paint

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,171 ✭✭✭triple-M

    or perhaps its rust

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,514 ✭✭✭BrianD3

That is almost certainly red paint from British rule.

I've seen old genuine British pillarboxes on ebay UK for around 3000-5000 GBP. Assuming the damaged box is unrepairable, the culprit could buy one of those, paint it green and get it installed!

Tube of Tec7 should sort it out.

Imagine if there was someone walking the pavement, I think a sore toe would be the lesser of your injuries. The break looks very clean so hopefully it can be plated and welded.

Anyone know what a post box of that era is made of ?? I think they look great, it'd be a shame to see it replaced with a modern replacement.

The red paint is most likely anti rust primer underneath d green top coat.

You have to give credit to An Post with the 'like a boss' attitude. None of this hanging around malarkey needing fresh planning permission, just getting on with the job.

I don't see why you wouldn't. You get a bill from the council if you damage signs or street lamps etc.

It's only cast Iron though.. melt it down re cast job done :D

I'd say there's already a committee being formed as we speak.

I don't know why, but I'm picturing Ross O'Carroll Kelly's mother here; " It's simply not in keeping with the aesthetic tone of the area..."
