VW Electrical Servicing Dublin

I have an electrical gremlin n my 03 Passat 1.8T.
Central Locking, Electric Windows and interior lights have been temperamental, but still work. This morning the car won't even turn over, but lights are still working. Most advice points towards the CCM (Comfort Control Module) needing a look at, or replaced.

It's very pricey new so I'd prefer to go to a good VAG independent who would be willing to install a 2nd hand part if required, rather than the main dealer route.

Now the problem might be a minor electrical issue so I could really do with someone who knows the particulars of this issue, hence why the main dealer (who'll have seen plenty of them before) is tempting.

    All advice welcome.

IMO there is no reason to consider a main dealer as the only option. Any decent indepentant should be able to diagnose and repair the problem.

The CCM on the passat is under the carpet on the passanger side and is very prone to damage from water ingress or dampness effecting the connections etc. That would be the first thing to be checked.

There are literally dozens of threads on Passat CCM issues between here and other fora.
As ND said above, the prime suspect is water-the ingress could be caused by several different issues, most of which could be solved with diy.

    Google can be your friend.

    Thanks.
I have read the other threads.
As I said in my post I'm not asking about the issue, but who to get it looked at by.

In that case, any indy worth his salt will be able to sort this out.

What part of the country are you in?
If you're in Dublin, Nissan Doctor is in Drumcondra.
If you're around Laois, George Dalton is your man.

    Hey lads,

Sorry to hijack this thread but could anyone recommend a good independent VW mechanic in Dublin that is ok dealing with electrics as I am want to get a rear view mirror and rain sensitive wiper module replaced on a 2001 Bora. I have all the parts but not the experience!

    Thanks!
