There are many interesting theories on LetsRun about Mr Rupp and his training group. His improvement does appear to be quite dramatic in nature. Obviously the work he is doing with Salazar is proving to be extremely beneficial.

To all the cynics, I'm sorry for you, ... I'm sorry you can't believe in miracles. This is a great sporting event and hard work wins it.

Those Rupp still train with Mo Farrah?

i'm not trolling for ped speculation-there's enough of that on letsrun

himself and old man lagat are setting new american records
(lagats's doing the NYC HM this weekend)

it'll be interesting to see what happens in moscow-the 5k is after the 10k

I think you will find that most elite athletes work as hard as Galen Rupp. Unfortunately for them that hard work doesn't normally manifest itself in such a dramatic improvement. He is obviously fortunate that the programme Salazar has him on is very successful.

Yes. He's looking to be in great form, and will be interesting to see how close he can push Farah in the Worlds. That's not to discount the other main contenders. His recent indoor mile and 3k times suggest that he is ready to challenge Farah in the last 400-600m of the 10K. It will be fascinating to see how it plays out.

I detect a little cynicism in this entry?

If Salazar's group are doing something other than training exceptionally hard in a structured way, then I'll be disappointed and shocked. Rupp & Farah are examples of what self belief, hard work and good coaching can achieve. Salazar employs a long term approach to his coaching and both Rupp & Farah have shown gradual progression each year (it's the major spikes in performance that raise questions). They have shown that you don't have to be east African to contend at World championship and Olympic level.

Rupp’s remarkable improvement continues as he keeps getting faster and faster, or stronger and stronger. Remember, it was less than 4 years ago that Rupp broke 4 minutes for the mile for the first time (On March 7, 2009 Rupp ran 3:57.86 for his first ever sub-4 mile or 1,500 equivalent). Now he’s not quite able to do it for 2 miles, but he’s very close to sub 60 for 8 straight laps outdoors.

To put it into perspective though he had ran 3.44 back in 2005 so was not far off 4 min miling long before that as an 18 year old. You also have to look at the all time list for 1500m runners rather than milers to remember that the mile is no longer a frequently ran distance indoors or out. His recent 3k is much more impressive

He wont ever run sub 8 for 2 mile.

Backed him at 16/1 and 12/1 to win the 10k in Moscow a couple of weeks ago (and 20/1 to win the 5k but I don't think he can win that). His improvement curve is spiking upwards at the moment. It's even more impressive when you consider last years indoor season. Rupp did not even make the US team for 3k in the World Indoors. He then got meekly knocked out of the heats in the 1500. With Farah failing to medal, it is fair to say that Salazar did not take indoors too seriously and look what the group went on to do London. Rupp will be going into this summer at a different level.
