Now in order you for to understand my post here, you have to realise HOW MUCH BETTER ANALOGUE LOOKS AND SOUNDS THAN DIGITAL DOES........ If you dont, please back out of my thread as this is a SERIOUS issue ok??

I love VHS for the NON DIGITAL ASPECT of how good it looks and sounds....

I am quite annoyed when i get good movies on VHS that have been "DIGITALLY MASTERED" or "Digitally Processed" (Dolby Digital, etc) as the colours are aweful and it doesnt sound as good...

I just ordered some VHS tapes from amazon and 1 of them was THE GOONIES.. It has been "DIGITALLY PROCESSED" and the sound is crappy. (No better than a DVD)

I also ordered TOY SOLDIERS and that is "DIGITALLY MASTERED" and looks and sounds like crap!!

WHY CAN THEY LEAVE GOOD MOVIES ALONE??????? --- Especially on VHS!!! -- No they have to come out with a "25th anniversary" and that one is usually "DIGITALLY MASTERED" and looks/sounds like crapola compared to the original recording!!!

I am thankful to have gotton THE BREAKFAST CLUB from the 80s WITH NO DIGITAL COMPROMISE and it looks/sounds as good as it did in the 80s!!

I collect VHS movies but ONLY THOSE THAT ARE NOT DIGITALLY MESSED WITH because i want the BEST quality.. VHS IS NOT DVD!!! its hard finding ANY MOVIES after 2001 that havent been digitally compromised..... (Although i dont like many after 2001 so it doesnt matter)

I DONT WANT CRAP!! (And yes i think DVD's are not as good as VHS as they are DIGITAL and dont sound/look as good (THEY CANT....... DIGITAL IS NOT ANALOGUE!!))

I love a whole bunch of movies from the 90s and before and sadly I CANT GET MANY OF THEM W/O DIGITAL GARBAGE IN THEM!!!!! (So I do not bother) -- Im sick of it!!!!

Bill and Teds excelllent adventure is one of my FAVOURITE 80s movies... On the VHS tape it says "Digital Stereo" -- So it wont sound any better than watching it on cable TV!!

ET is another one i would LOVE getting but that tape says "DIGITAL VIDEO TRANSFER" and wont be good........

I am thankful i have as many movies as I have W/O COMPROMISE,i am just sick of ppl taking PERFECTLY GOOD MOVIES like The Wizard of OZ and re-releasing it and "DIGITALLY MASTERING" it!! (Thankfully i have this movie (UNCOMPROMISED) a friend gave it to me a few months back, looks and sounds excellent!)

Im sick of it all i tell ya guys! -- We cant enjoy many movies from the past -- GOOD MOVIES -- without them being altered with electronic garbage...... Its sickening!

Can you not buy older pre-DVD-era VHS from ebay etc instead if all the 'modern' stuff has been digitally tampered with?

Sometimes Analogue is better than digital, for instance Vinyl records are better than cd or mp3.

However, VHS videos were awful and still are, I'll stick with bluray thanks very much :P

One quarter or so of the resolution, fm audio and the inherent tracking issues. You're beyond mad

Not sure I'm with ya on the Video end of things but for the first few years DVD's came out and ages after wide screen came out I used to hate that things were letterboxed and not using the full screen with 16:9 ration.
These days something like a movie like Lord of the Rings you can really make out
little details that you might not of noticed with VHS.

Audio I still prefer Analogue type media. Back in the days of watching a VHS video you could hear Actors/Music/effects better. Nowadays with downloadable content, Sky Box, DVD, Blu-Ray I often cannot stand the sound.

Music and Effects drown out the Voice Channel so you constantly end up
turning up the telly at some points to hear whats being said, and turning it down when it comes to action parts. All the fiddling with the settings don't help.

I totally agree with this, I don't know if that's down to differences in analogue and digital but it really, really bugs me when I have to strain to hear what an actor is saying only to be able to hear the background noise channels perfectly. :(

Except its as far from "good quality" as possible. To everyone except the insane.

Dunno, dvds are compressed data as is and yes look grotty, but blu ray is technically superior and yes they tend to be mastered in proper 16:9 format.
As for VHS, sorry if you like 480 lines res or 4mhz vertical resolution, and bumpy fm audio your welcome to it.
Add colour under system and oh yes, head switching noise and 4:3 pan and scan imagery, real nice? Man I have just dumped a crate of tapes and betamax also.
funny I agree on the processed dolby and digitally remastered can ruin an origional recording. I guess its a tradeoff with what you tolerate. Im with vinyl btw And 8 tracks, have loads here so its all down to taste i guess. But man, VHS can die. I dont miss it.

Thats a sad comment my friend.... Analogue is the BEST form of audio/video you can have!!!! (Always has been/will be)

    Truly sad....

Include the fact that usually you take an inferior VHS system (Betamax was better quality), then modulate up to UHF and add more noise, then put it into your TV and demodulate it (and add still more noise)....

But of course you are welcome to your opinion OP.

If you were talking about, say, Laserdisc you might have a point.

That you're claiming VHS of all useless formats is better just proves that you're blind/deaf and a zealot.
