How to rejoin a Toyota rear-view mirror with its mounting?

On of my mates knocked his rear view mirror off the windscreen, but the mounting stayed attached to the glass. It's a 2003 Toyota Avensis.

We've tried to get the little ball on the mounting back into the socket in the back of the mirror but it doesn't want to engage fully. We're tried putting it at 90 degrees or as close as we can get to it. I'm a bit afraid to try too much force in case I break the glass. There are no electrics in the mirror, it's just hte plain old rear view mirror.

    Any tips?

They are designed to snap off in the event of an accident. You will never be able to get it to snap back on..... However if you pull off the plastic trim from the mirror housing there should be a screw or Allen key to release the pressure on the springy metal holder so you re tighten when you mate it to the metal that's stuck to the glass.

The mount/arm that is still attached to the windscreen should be able to be removed by pushing it up. That should seperate the mirror mounting arm from a 'pad' that is fixed to the windscreen.
With the mirror and the mounting arm seperate from the windscreen, it should be easier to mate the two parts again.

Could you use Tec 7 on it and stick it on permanently?

From what your saying the mirror has come off the "ball" and the bracket is still attached to the windscreen?

If this is the case you won't be able to attach it back on institute. You'll need to take the bracket cover off and remove the bracket from the windscreen, from memory the toyota ones should slide upwards. Then you'll need to use a vice / clamp to "pop" the bracket back into the mirror housing, obviously taking care not to damage the glass/plastic of the mirror.

Appreciated. Ball has since been reunited with its socket, and the mirror is back to normal.

    Thanks for the assistance!
