National Insurance number UK

    Hi,

In the UK, a National Insurance number (NI) is required to work there.
Does anybody know if this has any connection to Ireland when obtained. Like, will this then signal to the Irish government that the person is working in the UK? or does the organisation providing the NI number contact Ireland at all during the process to get information?
Many people say no, and some say yes.. it's difficult to find the correct answer.

    Thanks,
    Jason

There's obviously a concern here-are you worried about Uk source income being linked to the Ireland or vice versa?

Yes they do. When getting my NI number I had to give them my PPS number in my interview and they contacted the Dept. of Social Protection in the South. The Jobs and Benefits office in the North and Dept. of Social Protection in the South do talk to each other and share information!

Actually, it's not the Home Office who issue NI No.'s. It is done by the DWP (Dept of Work and Pensions).

Correct. The info is sent to the DWP in Newcastle who will check NI contributions, and send info back to Welfare.
