The only thing that'll get me dancing is vast, vast quantities of alcohol.
It the part of my wedding day I'm least looking forward to as it's expected of me.

Although half of the stuff on that list is totally cringeworthy, a lot if it are floorfillers. I would hate to be at the wedding of the person who came up with that list, there would be no one dancing!!:D

At least footloose isn't on that list :D

LOL footloose is on the list, indeed so is "What a Feeling" (unless you were just kidding.. :o)

agree with most of the Gran Hermano list, however would probably extract the following off it:
Summer of 69 - looks like it's popular with posters here already
    Saturday Night
    Respect
Living on a Prayer - also on Karen23's list
Summer Loving - not my kinda song, but all girls usually go up dancing for that.
    Twist and Shout
    What a Feeling

In addition, Thunderstruck -always gets the lads moshing :D

I think girls always get up dancing for "All the single ladies", as do some of the drunk guys.
Personally I also like some of the Gipsy Kings, cos I like dancing salsa (not exactly salsa music, I know, but you can make it fit!)

    No fun?

Whilst cheese is a personal thing and I think many djs try and avoid playing the cringeworthy songs, the novelty stuff and the obvious stuff 'that has it's own dance' one also has to remember it is a celebration/party with a wide age range and variety of people and too many restrictions will lead to empty dancefloor. Like most things, there's a happy medium.

    Some of my perennial faves:

    erasure - a little respect
depeche mode - just cant egt enough
communards -dont leave me this way
generation x/billy idol - dancing with myself
    dr alban - sing hallelujah
mark morrison - return of the mac
    kanye west - gold digger
stunning - brewing up a storm
    fratellis - chelsea dagger

    james - sit down
    emf - unbelievable

What always seems popular but is guaranteed to get hairs on the back of my neck to stand upright and have me fleeing the dance floor is that completely crap and worlds most irritating song - girl your sex is on fire. I had liked kings of leon before it but will never forgive them.

djing a wedding last friday, bride said under no condition am I to play rock the boat, she hates it. no problemo. groom comes over at 1:30am with the best man, hape of gargle on them and said can i get rock the boat for the lads. what to do? I normalyl wouldnt play it anyway but they REALLY wanted it.

stuck it on, lads were rolling round the floor laughing, bride was too. highlight of the night. Sure who cares. no room for music snobbery at 1:30 in the morning when everyones jumping up and down laughing.

maybe give DJ or band a list of songs ya want to hear and maybe a genre of music ya dont "no ska or dubstep please", but suggest leave it up his own discretion after that.

Of course most of it is cheesy but they fill the dance floor. The guys always love Madness too and I agree with the no dance routine like Macarena and Saturday Night. They always make me sit down.

Wrong!! I was at a wedding when the played this, half of us were stunned off the dancefloor

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,411 ✭✭✭ABajaninCork

For me, it's gotta be 'Candy' by Cameo. No black wedding is complete without it! :D My husband always jokes that it's line dancing for black people. In fact, we hustle to that tune, and even my husband can do a bit now.

Irish DJ didn't have it for our wedding, even though I offered to get him a copy. I was cursed stink by my family and friends!!!

Another floorfiller for me would be 'She's Got The Vibe' by R Kelly. 'Crazy In Love' or 'Single Ladies' by Beyonce would be cool too.

One of the best dances at a wedding ive ever seen was when the DJ stuck on Return to Sender (maybe a bit random??) and one of the lads had this whole routine - legendary stuff!! No one left the dancefloor after that!
