The difference in the length of time it takes to heat an average four bedroom house with spade cut turf as opposed to machine cut ones.

A practical experiment in social conditioning to see how long people in a group within a controlled environment can sit in perfect silence whilst being watched by a single person.

If anybody speaks before the 5 minute mark, berate them mercilessly as being a representation of current society, blame smart-phones and the internet for a lack of personal ability and appreciation for silence and introspection and that the world is doomed as the human spirit is replaced by techno-junkies needing their hit immediately and repeatedly. Compare facebook to opium and try throw in a reference to the downfall of the roman empire.

If nobody says anything just smile benignly at the end and walk out of the room.

You might look nuts, but if you can pull it off your lecturer will think you're all insightful and stuff.

Ask everyone to give you their coats, form a pile in the middle of the room, hide under them for 3 to 5 minutes then deny the whole thing ever happened. :p

Seriously, I had something like that to do ages ago. I did a quick presentation on Star Trek (I think?). As you could guess there wasn't a single fan in the room :(

As long as you can display some passion for your topic and not look like you're a rabbit caught in headlights, you'll be fine. They're more looking for how you present, not the content per se.

I had to do this back in college aswell when I was in 1st year

I just did it on myself, my pets and growing up- boring but feck it, no one will be listening to you:
    • Those that have yet to give their presentations will be shiting themselves over what you have to say
    • Those that have given their presentations will be so relieved they'll be a million miles away

Only person listening is the lecturer, just make sure to make eye contact every now and then and speak loud- it is all they want :)

You could play this as background music

Sounds of silence is a hit as recording of empty 12th century village church sells out

Just talk about something that interests you. That way you'll remember what your main points are. Otherwise you'll be totally unprepared and it'll show.

How about a presentation on making a 5 minute presentation about a 5 minute presentation?

The myth of global warming. Academics love global warming deniers.

I wanted to do a presentation on the dolphin slaughter in Taiji but my tutor made me change it to the same as my research project, which was boring old visas to the USA. Apparently chopped up dolphins isn't appropriate for college. But I ask, when is it appropriate? Hmmm?

Do it naked. If you are hideous looking, they'll all be gone in a minute. If you're a looker, start touching yourself.

I did philosophy at an NUI university, we were occasionally encouraged to pick crazy or bizarre subjects to put forward and defend in order to work on our logic and reasoning skills. Turns you into an argumentative git, but it can really help you see how people think, especially yourself, and helps you see when people are talking sh1t fairly handy.

Do the presentation about looking up pictures of cats on the internet.

Because let's face it that's all you're going to be doing tonight.
