    Hi Folks,

I was wondering if somebody could recommend a set of pedals and shoes. I have been going for a few spins up to Glencree, Enniskerry and while sat and chatting to a guy at Johnny Fox's on Saturday morning, he mentioned I would benefit from some proper shoes and pedals. I am a UK size 7/8

I plan on doing about 50K a week oh and like everyone else I am on a budget.

    Thanks in advance.

Up to 100 Km/week I would use pedals with toe straps either with runners or preferably with (hard sole footwear about €70 on CRC. The advantage here is that you can walk as normal in these.
More than that shimano SPD-SL R075 or R078 with 105 pedals for about €110 new. Not so good for walking, occasionally get clogged with mud and stones and the cleats may need to be changed annually at a cost of about $15.

I find Shimano shoes are on the small side (both width and length)... normally go for 1-2 sizes larger than you would think. Try some on in a lbs to check size, you may also get a better deal than on the net and, if you ask nice, they may set them up for you - your feet will thank you for a proper pedal fit.

If you only go on long spins and have no real requirement for walking then get 3-bolt road shoes/pedals, there are plenty too choose from Shimano spd-sl, Look Keo, Time. You don't have to match shoes with pedals, they all use the same 3-bolt pattern a.k.a "Look-type".

If you want a shoes with a sole, that aids walking, try shimano spd's which have a small recessed cleat.

Suppliers: try on-line for pedals such as crc, wiggle, bike24, bike-discount etc. Might be a good idea to get first pair of shoes in-store as sizing not always standard.
