Value when buying used in NI vs ROI

Hi, first post on this site. I've been looking at various MX5's mk2.5(2002-2005) in both Ireland and up North. There appears to be a greater range of higher spec models in NI at comparable prices to the standard spec offerings here(including VRT etc). I've little preference as to what trim level the car has but my question is would I be getting substantially better value in NI with all relevant costs considered? Any advice would be most appreciated :)

Im not sure about the value side of things but watch out for underbody rust on those mx5s especially on cars from the north.

I've come across few rusty dogs alright, especially the pre-facelift mk2. I suppose its all down to individual ownership and how/where it was driven.

    That's it exactly.

You dont really save a whole lot by importing these days on the whole but what you get is a better selection of cars to choose from. This is why I still look to the UK for my cars if I cant find anything here.

You get a slightly better deal, higher spec cars, more likely to have a service history and better kept

Very true, to be honest I'm not so worried about saving few hundred here or there, Im interested in the later models(2003-2005,3000-5000 sterling) as the car is intended to be a keeper!

Why would you advise that? Because they salt the roads.

News flash - they finally caught up if the times and salt the roads here too.

    Not an issue.

In fairness I've seen my fair share of older models caked in rust. Its not so much the salt itself, its when cracks/scuffs around area like arches/sideskirts go untreated and the rusting can spread over a longer time frame

It is an issue though because MX5's have poor rust protection and don't stand up to the elements as well as other cars.

In the North they use a lot more salt on their roads than we do here and they salt for longer periods of the year. However im not saying all northern cars have corrosion..as has been said earlier it all depends on who owned the car, what type of use it got and how well it was cared for.
