Quick question, does anyone know what the station staff are like in Belfast Central if you have a ticket to Dublin pre-booked on Irishrail.ie and you need to catch the train back to Dublin at a different time? Will they just wave you through or will they instruct you to the ticket office to pay a change fee?

In general, NIR don't do bookings, except for first class.

With Irish Rail, you can contact them and cancel the ticket (50-80% refund) and re-buy, but this might be more expensive. http://www.irishrail.ie/contact

Your best option is to contact Irish Rail as soon as possible.
