Underqualified for job

    I applied for a job recently and didnt think I had much chance of hearing anything back but yesterday they offered me an interview. The job criteria said they were looking for someone with a degree and I dont have one but I do have a small amount of work experience in the field and I have done a short part time course in it. I feel abit worried about going to the interview incase they expect me to know alot more about the filed than I do but they should know from my cv that I dont have much experience. Am i right to think this or could I be quized at the interview?

    Congrats on the interview.
    Interviewers generally aren't trying to catch you out. They want to fill a position just as much as you want to fill it.

    They're asking questions to find out:
    1. Whether you're a good fit for the company & share the company values. Expect questions like "what are your strengths/weaknesses?" "do you enjoy working as part of a team"
    2. Whether, technically, you will be able to do the job. They might ask you to talk about previous roles you held to make sure you didn't lie about your experience. More senior roles will usually involve more technical questions or possibly a separate assessment test.. more junior roles will prefer people with potential who are fast learners.
    3. You're actually interested in the company and the job. Expect questions like "so why did you apply here and not somewhere else". "what do you know about our company". and "do you have any other questions you'd like to ask"

    You've been called to interview so you've your foot in the door. Now all you need to do is make the most of it. There's plenty of reasons why you could have been called to interview. A lot of the time a degree gets stated as a default required qualification when it's not necessarily required. The company might be happy to take someone with some experience who's showed some initiative and intererst, or perhaps they just think someone less qualified could fit the job fine working their way up on a slightly lower salary. Just make sure you spend some time preparing and maximise your chance of making a good case for yourself.
