Have a Johnson 9.9 two-stroke, light enough to take on and off, enough power to get around the lake quick enough, heavy on juice but reliable...

Depending what size boat you have most lads between 6-15hp most popular prob Yamaha Honda Suzuki . then ya have 2 or 4 stroke the 2 stroke lighter easy manage .4 stroke mostly not as loud and easier on fuel but tend to be heavy.after that go as much as ya can afford dear time of year to buy one . peak time .

I have a honda 8 hp long shaft 2 cylinders. Weighs a dead donkey and that's not really practical as I can't really decide to go fishing on my own as last minute decision. However the engine is very silent a can Trawl for hours without wrecking your head. It's very economical and so far reliable.

I would recommend for someone who keeps his engine on the boat full time. I'm considering changing it for a lighter model

    2004 Honda 15
Best engine for a lake boat I've ever used/owned.
