Anyone interested in going to League of Ireland games this season?

I was wondering if anyone is interested in getting a few of together and going to watch LOI games this season? I normally go to Tallaght but sometimes go further into Dublin. Games are only €15 in and having a few of us regularly going means we could split the cost and driving duties.

I don't drive but I'd be happy to give it a lash and lower the price of fuel for drivers

Any games in particular? Would love if Kilkenny City FC was back, whatever happened to the petition for it on Facebook that got pretty big?

The money is just unplausible i'd suppose, would really need a backer

Did anyone on those petitions offer to fund it?? No?? thats probably what happened

It's the original ten grand licence that is the main stumbling block i'd say.

Was meant to go to a few Wexford Youths games last season given that the locality had 7-8 players in the squad. But an 8pm KO of a Fri meant you'd be doing well to be home at 11:30 pm after a game. And depending on how clear the road in front of you is a trip to Wex from KK takes 75-90 minutes (most of it on that horror of a road from KK to New Ross)

On seeing Kilkenny City back, looking at the figures both Tralee Dynamos and FC Carlow were going to need to get going I don't see a revival anytime soon. It was approx. €125k just for entry and expenses for a season (which I think the licensing needed to see in the clubs accounts before issuing a license). Would need serious investment to get going.

You'd need an average of 500 people paying €10 a head just to raise €70k in the current First Division format on gate receipts alone. That's assuming a home game is €10 per adult and doesn't factor in student, oap, season ticket holder reductions. It doesn't of course include cup games but all cup games could potentially be away ties.

That figure was solely as amateur clubs too. I'd imagine when Pat Scully was in charge they players were semi-pro at least so attracting players that avoid the club getting a pasting every week might be hard to get together. You'll never maintain a decent number on the gate if not competitive. Once the shine wears off, if things aren't going well you'd have a very small core of supporters.

First game is Friday week, St. Pats v Drogheda seems to be the best of the games.

    Well said that man.

Frosty night football, immaculate playing surface, and Daisy knocking it long from right back.

What I wouldn't give to see Trevor Vaughan or Johnny Prizeman smash just one more in from the edge of the box.

    Memories. :(

I remember Squeeler's one against Finn Harps, Trevor Vaughan lobbing the keeper on a ****ty night against Home Farm. I was at Shamrock Rovers v Wexford Youths in Carlow IT a few weeks ago and Aidan Cooney was there watching. Good memories, the late Tommy Hayes used to drive us to away matches, remember beating Cork City in Turner's Cross in the cup, Richie Hale getting a goal. I think Buckley Park has got to be the coldest stadium in Ireland. I know a lot of the lads I used to go with all moved on, including myself. I don't know how clubs will survive under the financial fair-play rules, the FAI do some fantastic things for the league but have an equally fantastic ability to undo it.

Next up Rovers v Bray, should be an interesting game. Bray have been a bogey team for Rovers in recent years. Rovers have only won one game this season but drawn six, which leaves them and Sligo the only unbeaten teams this season. Bray are just above the drop zone having not won since their opening game of the season against Shels but with Jason Byrne, the second highest goalscorer of all time in the LOI, they will always remain a threat to any opposition they come up against this season. Kick-off is 8pm in Tallaght, I'm pulling out of KK around 6pm.
