What is the current going rate for tiling in the Munster Region?

Looking to tile 90 sq metres of ceramic floor tiles and 64 sq metres of wall tiles.

Tiles can vary from €7-€100/Msq. Borders are extra. Trims(€12.50/8ft) are extra and expensive. Floor Mosaics are extra and expensive if you are going wet room style showers. Any floor design you choose is extra. Adhesive is from €14- €30 per bag. Groute is €23- €27 per bag. 3mm spacers are €5 per pack. Labour is €10- €20/Msq. Hope this helps. These prices are obtained from sales in January 2013 from a well known tile outlet. Shop around and don't get the groute and adhesive from the tile store as it will be nearly twice the price of any material supplier.

Are you asking about someone doing the tiling?

I've heard of prices of between €10-16 per metre for ceramic floor tiling. Make sure to get some one that is recommended or has good references

I wouldn't agree with some of this. I used to work in a tile shop

Trims vary massively in price, from about €6 for basic white plastic to maybe €40 for polished "chrome" (I doubt it was chrome!). There were aluminium ones that were somewhere in between , maybe €12 i think. Make sure you get the right size for your tile.

Your tile shop might not be more expensive for adhesive, I know the shop I worked in was not expensive for adhesive at all. The Shop i worked in was €12 for standard floor adhesive and €22 for flexi floor adhesive. Grey floor grout was €16 i think. Most tilers will not require you to buy spacers (we sold very very little of them).

    On topic bit:
Ask the tile shop to recommend a tiler to you. The last thing they will want is someone to put your tiles down wrong. Its good to get the tiler sorted early in the process too as tilers may have a preference to what adhesive they would used based on the tiles etc. We accepted returns of tiles so we often were speaking to people after the job was done so we had a good idea of who was good or not.

Prices quoted for labour on the thread seem there or there abouts. But price is based on several factors.
    • Are the tiles delviered or will the tiler need to pick them up
    • Will the tiler have to move the tiles somewhere (from a garage, upstaris etc)
    • How open the area is, its much easier to tile a large kitchen than a narrow hall
    • How good the floor is, will they need to prep it (grind it/level it) or will they need to use extra adhesive to pad it out where its not level (wouldnt recomend this option). Even down to will the tiler need to sweep the floor before hand!

I tried 3 tile shops for adhesive and the bags were coming in between €27-€30 per bag. I tried 3 material suppliers and the bags were €17 in all of them. The buckets were €22-€23 in material supplier. I eventually got a good brand Evo-stick adhesive for €14/bag. Tiler was not sure about it but is very pleased with the results, very easy to apply and 2 hour quick set. Coverage states 6msq per bag but he said it was doing more than that.

Hi Fealeranger, I hope you dont mind me asking but are you based in Abbeyfeale?
The reason I ask is that I am based in Broadford and am seriously thinking of going direct labour and I would love to pick you brain on local suppliers, etc.... Our site is unusual and the Council are costing us a fortune on works to get Planning and now im worried we wont have enough money to build so your advice would be much much appreciated....

    Hey Molcon,
I'm in Tournafulla, approaching the end of a build. We were originally planning to do a self build (on a fairly unusual design) but in the end, went with a contractor (J&B O Sullivans) and I must say, although it cost a little (not much) more, I'm glad we did. It's been a very stress-free build after a two year battle for planning permission. I'd get a few builders quotes, they are working for very narrow margins at the moment.

    Hi Molcon,
Couldn't reply to your pm, your account doesn't permit it apparently.
the house is a modern design, split level with galvanised steel roofing and cladding. It's a bit unusual looking, I'll attach a pic if I have one. It's costing about €85 a square foot. I was initially planning a self-build but not being in the trade myself, felt it was just too much to take on. My cousin who's a QS in Limerick priced materials at about 200K! He reckoned I'd be better off getting quotes from builders, that it wouldn't cost much more and it would be faster/less stressful.
Honestly, it's the best decision I've made, mainly because the builders I hired are an absolute pleasure to deal with. Honest, professional and the work is top class. (I sound like I work for them but I don't, I swear!). After waiting forever to get permission/mortgage etc sorted out, the build has been a doddle because these guys are completely on the ball. I'd definitely get a few quotes, anyway. I was surprised at how competitive pricing was.tumblr_mj8mu2IBhD1s6v01jo1_1280.jpg

If you want any more detail/contact info, let me know.
    regards,
    Mossie
