Hi i havent posted on this forum in a few years , so dont know whether this is the right place to put this thread or not.

Struggling with groin stomach injury for the past 2 years now . Managed to run and train through it but not getting any better and i need to get something done with it.

I had an MRI done initially (2 years ago) which showed up as inconclusive for hernia. I have had accupuncture, sports massage , physio and an osteopath look at it , all scrtaching their head about it , but majority saying that its possibly a sports hernia. ie coughing test as well as other symptoms. The consultant i went to doesnt really look at sports hernia, nor does the MRI pick this up accurately so i am told.

Has anyone undergone a similar injury? Would you recommend any sports specific consultant who looks at these ? I know there is a place in Mater , Santry and Waterford which specialise in hip and groin, I live in the west so ideally i would like to go somewhere a little closer.

Bloody sick of this have trained though this for the last 2 years and realised that this isnt going to get better (what with all the best stretching, foam rolling, manipulation and core work in the world). The pain is manageable to an extent but speed work racing or longer duration runs and hard pounding exacerbate it (its always there but more managebale)

<mod>I'll leave the thread open if people are responding to this element, but remember the ban on medical advice</mod>

I completely read that thread title wrong. I thought that maybe someone had given Eamonn Gilmore a kick twixt the sticks

I had gilmores groin surgery done years ago. I had lots of probles getting it diagnosed but I was less than 5 mins in Gerry McEntee's office and he had surgery booked. At the time, he was the only one doing the surgery and I know lots of people who he has operated on since with success. I don't know if he is still the only one doing the surgery. Enda King in Santry has opened up a new groin clinic in Santry - it's supposed to be top class and could be an option. All of these are based in Dublin but if you've had it two years and really want to get it sorted, it'd be well worth the trip!

I share your frustration having had a similar injury which had me not running for the guts of all last year.

I was recommended to visit Dr. Noel McCaffrey in DCU. Link: http://www.exwellmedical.ie/
The site for the Waterford clinic looks good. http://www.hipandgroinclinic.ie but I haven't come across anyone yet that has used their services.
No one out West that I know of I'm afraid.

I've come through treatment at the Sports Surgery Clinic. Just an injection for me but its not really treating the underlying problem which shows up on the MRI. I could well have a touch of Gilmore's so I'll pay a visit to one of the above in due course.

I'LL probably try santry if I can get an appointment, the excess on my health insurance isn't too bad for the op. I am concious of the time to heal after and loss of fitness, but I suppose I don't really have a choice, could continue running but not enjoying it anymore with this bloody thing , I have heard about the injection as well, heard the outcomes were generally short term and a bit hit & miss
