Reglaze existing single glaze or new windows?

We have a large amount of windows. Quote to reglaze the existing teak windows with double glazing (in current frames) is coming in at roughly half of cost of new windows (in UPVC).
Would you do it? Does anyone know of any reputable firms? We are not DIY by nature i.e. can do but won't do, so the upkeep of the windows would be something of a concern to me, although the previous owner last "did" them about 10-12 years ago and they look great still.
Other than that we are looking at UPVC and aluclad for a larger window which UPVC won't manage.
Which would you choose? Would the teak have a significantly poorer U-value than the UPVC (not the lined stuff)? We are told we can get glass of 1.1 uvalue into the existing windows.

Also, in this regard, we are hoping to change the size of some of the windows, and the re-glazier can't help with this, but I suppose I could get a carpenter to remake/remodel/ add on to some frames... (or could I??)

I would love new (i.e. totally) new windows but can't discount the savings of reglazing, and the current windows are in good condition so it seems wasteful.

Thanks for any advice or comments.

Are the windows operating properly with no drafts? If yes then I would certainly keep the great looking teak windows and get them re-glazed.
The timber frames and pvc frames are fairly equal u-value wise but teak would be far stronger and will outlive most cheap replacement pvc windows.
I’m assuming there would be savings in the thousands going down this route?

I agree, it would be wasteful to rip them out and almost a sin!:)
A good carpenter/joiner can modify any timber frame without hassle.
