Getting a new prescription for contact lenses

Hi :) I'm new here and I moved to Ireland two months ago.
I have been wearing rigid contact lenses for about 13 years and I'm quite an expert, but I've recently broke one of my lenses and need to replace it.

Back in Italy I had my optician but there you don't need to bring your prescription with you and I didn't think of getting a copy of it.

I read this thread about getting contact lenses for the first time, but as a regular user do I need to do assessment AND teach?

Should I go to my GP or just any optician could be fine?

Thanks in advance and sorry for my English ;)

You could ring your Italian optician and ask for a copy of your spectacle and contact lens prescription to be posted faxed/scanned/emailed over or to replace the lens for you. If the prescription is dated within then twelve months old it can be used to replace the lens.
It would be a great help for your new optician if they are trying to replace just one lens. So they can match shape size material prescription design manufacturer.
Hard/ gas permeable lens fitting is fast becoming a lost art. So ask when making an appointment is your optician happy to fit GP lenses. You should need an eye test and a fitting appointment but not a teach appointment. At the end of the appointment the optician should be able to give you a realistic quote for a new lens or a new pair if required.

Thank you for the advice :)
I did exactly like you told me (my new optician asked for old contact lens details to speed up things), did a very meticulous eye-test on me and in two weeks I should be able to get my new contact lens. He also gave me replacement soft lenses for free, to cover for all the await time.

I'm really impressed and happy, found a really good and helpful optician in Cork (Daly's).
