    Hello,

My wife received a court summons the other day for non payment of speeding fine.

The speeding offence occurred last June while I was driving, but the car is registered in my wife's name. The fine came in the post, but I just put it to one side and completely forgot about it.

To be honest we are both very anxious about this court appearance. Neither of us have ever been in a situation like this before.

I'm just wondering what to expect ?

Can I take the points or would they have to go on my wife's license as the car is registered in her name.

Yup, admit you were driving, apologise for forgetting to pay, and you'll get a higher fine, and the same points

Seems to stand to you if you do actually show up, I was in court a few years ago as I'd two penalties for the same offence, so didn't pay both fines as the gardai told me to pay one then go to court and make the case to the judge, went fine, they struck out the second offence once I showed receipts etc.

People who didn't show up seemed to get a harsher penalty than those who did.

Thanks very much for the replies, that's put my mind at ease.

    I'm never speeding again :)
