How much is my car worth

Just trying to get a rough idea as to the value of my car. Dd seems to range it from anywhere north of 1500 to 6000!

It's a 2002 BMW 318ci with a recent NCT done on it which will last till 31 May 2013 ( I'm booking it in again to test it), almost complete service history (missing one service stamp and carcwas parked ip for 12 months), bodywork in very good condition, good spec, new Bridgestone tyres all round, no knocking suspension or anything else wrong with it. It will also have 2 keys with new batteries.

Spec includes sunroof and climate control.

Also new rear coils fitted, new rear lights on bootlid, wipers and a full service done in Jan.

Forgot to add it's taxed till the end of June

As a trade in to garage you'd be lucky to get offered €1000. Private you might get €1500 from the right buyer.

To be getting anywhere near the top end of the estimate above the car would have to have all the extras. Msport spec, leather, parking sensors etc. lots of people put off by the highish running costs (tax, petrol, servicing) on a car like that. Also 3 series are a very plentiful on the second hand market.

I sold a 03 one of these last year for €2,500 with one years nct, no tax 86,000 miles.
Car for sale 3 months only 2 people rang. So you be doing well to get €1,500

Friend of mine sold a 02 318ci in topaz blue which needed a new O2 sensor for about 2.5k last September. He got a good bit of interest too.

Afraid not. My back wouldn't take the harder suspension.

I have pictures on here in the post a pic of your car thread.

    I must link them in.

Similar situation as yourself - going to put my 01 e46 320i saloon up for sale next month, will have new tyres, 1 yr 3mth NCT, 2 months tax. Am thinking that I will put it up for 2200 and see what happens.. its hard to judge.

Saloons are worth a bit less than coupes.

It's not waxed or turned out properly in these but it gives you an idea of how it is

Looks tidy enough, I'd advertise it at €3k and accept anything above €2500. See how you get on.

    That sounds sensible enough.

On your last point about the saloons being worth less, from looking on DD that appears to be correct.

I still have to change the battery in one key and put it through the NCT before I'll consider selling it.

There is more demand for the coupe than the saloon and they cost more when new.

A lot of people are low balling that car....as is 2k, fresh test 2.5k +, good colour and clean, that car will generate interest with the right advert.

As someone said, with planned work done ask 2950 ono.

I think Bazz is right with the value ~3K ... always better to start high and work your way down if no interest. If the phone hopping there is something wrong. The other thing is everyone is looking for a bargain these days so give yourself a bit of leeway with asking price. For me I will be looking for ~2K and will ask 2200 for my E46 when I put it up..

btw reckon the ones on DD for 1.5K are clocked, crashed or both!

another large factor is where the car is located, if Dublin will probably shift a lot quicker... as it is a 2L you would often be surprised at what these cars can achieve, its over the 2L territory that the market for them becomes vastly more limited...

I'm in a certain neighbourhood in south Dublin where they are VERY popular.

I'll give it a couple of more weeks and get the other key sorted and NCT it again so it comes with a nice long test

I've decided to sell this a bit sooner than expected as a car I'd like has come up for sale

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,617 ✭✭✭ba_barabus

A link would be useful of course

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/4657693

From your OP "recent NCT done on it which will last till 31 May 2013 ( I'm booking it in again to test it)".

Yet the ad says "NCT until late May".

This is going to kill the possibly of achieving a sale at anywhere near your asking price.

My received wisdom (from langdang of this parish) is to suspect that a car which is offered for sale with less than 3 months NCT has actually been put through the test early by the seller and failed...

So, have it tested! Imagine the difference that "NCT exp 05/2014" will make to your ad.

    Lucky to get €1000

And put some fuel in it... doesn't have to be much but with 16 miles range left in the tank, I'm already thinking either its constantly run low on fuel and the fuel filter is probably shagged, or this lad is seriously stingy and probably hasn't kept it well.

something I wouldn't have though of, but a valid point!

Also, retake the engine bay pic to avoid the sunlight washout. Also, include some pics of the passenger seat and the rear seats. A close-up of the centre console too.

When (not if...) you get the new 2014 NCT, remove "NCTd in early February" from the ad.

I'm booking the retest next week. Had trouble trying to do it last week online and then never got the chance to call.

As for the empty fuel tank....it's already full. Having owned a 75 its rather rare I'd let the fuel get that low for fear of burning out the fuel pump.

Points all noted. The ad went up in a rush after I learned of a 330ci going up for a sake which has been very well cared for

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,617 ✭✭✭ba_barabus

Fuel tank brimmed and new photos added of the clocks and engine. Thanks for that as I hadn't noticed the fuel picture and the engine picture was one I forgot to retake yesterday.

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/4657693

Funnily enough the fuel tank is something I look at but never thought about when I took the pictures.

I'll try get it booked for the NCT during the week. Genuinely it's not something I'm concerned about as it was only done 4 weeks ago. Although I did have to tighten the handbrake on Friday evening.

Can't fit in a picture of the center console as I'm limited to 10 pictures. Although I have them taken if anyone asks for them.

You could always link a photo bucket album or something John in the advert. I quite like to see the seller offering more information than others.

That's not a bad idea Eoin.

Funnily enough its not something I'm used to seeing on dd. I've only ever seen it done on specialist sites or forum. Do dd allow links?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,042 ✭✭✭Bpmull

By the looks of things the car has parking sensors you could mention that in the ad as I find the more extras are mentioned the better the car seems to a potential buyer. It's only a small thing. If you are worried about a lack of pictures you could always say at the end of the ad that you can email more pictures if required.

Put it in as text if not, seen it done on a few higher end cars and it gave a good impression.

Can someone click on this link and tell me if it works

    http://s578.beta.photobucket.com/user/johnos1984/library/BMW%20318CI

    Updated ad containing link

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/4657693

Tried to put the link with URL tags in the ad but it wouldn't work.

Copy and paste but I'm sure people can figure that out

Take out the tags from the photobucket link.

Also, might be a good idea to mention something like "Car will have a new NCT to end of May 2014 before sale".

    URL tags are now gone.

I'll call NCTS as soon as I can and see when they can give me a date. I don't want to put it in until I know how soon it will be.

Trying to book online was a waste of time but I've read in another thread that it's best to just call

Jaysus the NCT part has been a bit of a pain to sort out!

It's seems the priority list is being sorted today by NCTS. I've just spoken to the helpful and lovely sounding "Mairead" who has given me 9:05pm on the 27th of March in Greenhills as my provisional date however she has told me to call every evening and ask for any cancellations if I want it done sooner which is helpful.

Can't say fairer than that really as she checked everywhere and gave me advice on how to get an early date!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,617 ✭✭✭ba_barabus

    NCT FTW.

Called today at 4:55pm and got a cancellation in Fonthill for 5:40pm.

After a mad dash over I got the car in on time and it passed the test no problem.

The NCT tester said it was in great condition after words.............."which is very unusual for a BMW" :pac:

Anyway all that's left to do is put the cert in the window.

Should be updated soon. Thanks for the wishes.

I've done everything that needs doing on DD :)

Taking a chance and ringing them in the evenings after work really paid off. I'd advise others do the same if you are flexible. Can't fault NCTS btw, they went the extra mile (including giving me ten minutes leeway when I was late due to traffic) to make sure the test was carried out..
