    Just wondering as to the best way to travel to dungarvan waterford from Dublin with a pedal bike. How long is the journey both by rail and bus. I presume you can get a bus from Waterford out to Dungarvan and that they would allow someone to bring a bike on board. I know they do on the train for an extra supplement.

    Dungarvan isn't served by the railway network, Carrick on Suir is the nearest town on the railway (no Sunday service) but it's about 40 kms away and a bit of a climb involved as you'd be skirting the eastern edge of the Comeraghs.

    Bus Eireann serves Dungrvan from Waterford, plan your journey here....

    Train to Waterford takes about 2 hours and 10-20 minutes and costs €29 adult single, €30.50 adult day return and €38 open return. Student return costs €20 but is subject to conditions. There are 7 trains daily and only 4 on Sundays. There is no catering on trains but there should be a snack cart serving tea and coffee and a selection of cold drinks, sandwiches and snacks There is very limited accommodation on the train for bicycles with a maximum of 3 being carried on any train. You can reserve a bicycle space for an extra €6 each way.

    You would need to continue from Waterford to Dungarvan by bus from the bus station on the Quays which is ten minutes walk from the train station. route 40 leaves the bus station on the hour from 8pm-6pm inclusive then 7.30pm and 9pm heading for Cork Via Dungarvan.

    The Waterford to Dungarvan section of the trip will cost;
    Service 40
    Fare Discounted Fare
    12.50 11.87 : Adult Single
    19.50 18.52 : Adult Rtn

    42.50 40.37 : Student 10 Jny

    There is also the option of taking the bus from Busáras which takes 2 hours 30 minutes and will drop you in the bus station where you will change onto the cork bus, route 40. the journey from Busáras to Dungarvan with Bus Éireann will be cheaper than the train journey to Waterford with or without the bus to Dungarvan.

    18.50 17.57 : Adult Single
    26.00 24.70 : Adult Rtn

    There may be a charge for your bicycle on the buses but in my experience this is rarely charged if there is plenty of luggage space.

    Return train will cost you €19.98 when booked online 3 days+ before travel. If you get a morning train ie 7.25 or 10.15 then you would get away without paying for you bike if in the middle of the week as they will be lightly loaded and half the people don't pay for a bike anyways and some trains carry 6.

    Bus Station walk takes 5 mins max (I do it in less than 5) and there is also a 16.30 service to Dungarvan Monday-Saturday and if you are returing early there is a 07.30 Bus from Dungarvan Monday-Saturday. Also a 16.35 service from Dungarvan on Sundays.

    Getting a Bus from Dublin will result in heavy traffic and will be late into Waterford, Cork bus will wait if its a few minutes late but if there is anthing more than 10 it won't only exceptions may be a friday if there is a lot of students transfering onto it when 20 mins delay would be max.

    Some Bus drivers will charge for a bike and some won't but its €10 AFAIK.

    Cork - Waterford arrivals times in Waterford are often delayed up to 15 mins with traffic in the city centre so bare that in mind.
