Street Fight among Cork teenagers

I already made thread about this particular fight yesterday evening, but it was closed as it was a "non story". I reckon now that it made the front page of todays Cork examiner it could be reposted.
A teenage girl had teeth knocked out in a vicious pre-arranged brawl which was recorded and uploaded to YouTube.
A crowd of up to 200 teenage onlookers, including children under the age of 10, prevented adults from intervening.

It sounds pretty violent, did anyone see the video?

Jonathon O'Brien reckons it is due to a "breakdown of society". I think he is making a mountain out of a molehill.

Given that teenagers are involved this might not be the best idea for a thread. Way too similar to the kpmg thread in terms of cyberbullying potential imho

Teenagers have always had fights, there is just more ways to capture the special moment nowadays.

He doesn't say the fight is due to a breakdown of society, he is referring to youtube hosting the video content, in the same article he states "once it goes up on YouTube, it’s up there forever" and since youtube have deleted the video his statement is completely invalid.

Right, exactly. It's not like anyone has the ability to download the videos and reupload them. That's just crazy talk!

But he was having a go at youtube, who have taken the video down and will do so whenever it is uploaded because it is against their terms and conditions, so his statement is invalid.

Because he said "YouTube had a responsibility to prevent such footage, particularly featuring children, being uploaded to its site"? Remember, we're talking about a person who doesn't know how the Internet works. He's a politician. You don't get into politics because you're the smartest in all the land. You can pretty much ignore anything a politician has to say about the web.

Back in my day, teenagers used to fly B-24's over Europe and drop cluster bombs on civilians

A lot of time teenagers are put under pressure to fight in front of the camera .

It can't be about the breakdown of society, that would imply there IS some form of functioning society in Cork in the first place.

Don't worry. Once the mods make sure the girls parents don't work for a company who is hired by boards.ie then this thread will be fine.

    Mod

Video link removed, we did have a general discussion on the oft hinted at other story, unfortunately it had to be locked because some couldn't help themselves and post personal details.

I hope the same doesn't happen here, there'll be no mods or outside sources to blame.

This latest fight happened last weekend. It was supposed to have went on for an hour and one of the girls had her two front teeth knocked out. Both of them were crying and were supposed to have been kicked and punched by onlookers as well.

Teenagers were meant to be threatening the adults not to phone the cops.

What has me is,why did it take an hour for the guards to turn up in Cork City.

I'd reckon people voting for Sinn Fein is far more indicative of a broken society than any kids fighting.

What exactly does that have to do with girls knocking lumps out of each other?

The comments about a 'breakdown of society' came from a Sinn Fein TD.

I think Jonathon O'Brien is the one who needs to cop on.
