Recently had my attic converted with a pull-down staircase etc. The thng is the opening is ungaurded and its quite adrop onto the landing below.

What would be the best option to make it safe and also to look okay as well.

I was thinking about a bannaster but somebody told me there's no strength in one and i'd need some sort of wall.
Any ideas?
