JobBridge Issue

    Hi,

While I know that JobBridge has come in for a lot of criticism on Boards, I have been an intern for almost nine months now and for the most part I have enjoyed it. My internship was in a third level institution so that may have made some difference.

My issue now is that as my internship is due to end the college has created a new role performing many of the functions that I was doing but they will not let me apply for it. The logic behind their refusal is that it is not an "entry level" position and that I am not deemed to be existing staff.

I have more or less exhausted all avenues for complaint internally but this episode has left a bad taste about the college in particular and JobBridge in general.

Has anyone similar experiences or any advice on what options may be open to me?

I always wondered why people did jobbridge in the public service since they can't keep you on or create a job for you. You're not part of the staff so therefore can't apply for internal jobs. If the job is being advertised externally I don't see how they could stop you applying for it.

Most 3 level colleges advertise for certain grades of employees and then create panels for a period of 2 or 3 years which all future jobs have to be filled for. It's to cut costs in advertising every low level job that comes up.
