C.V. joints are shot

Hey guys and gals, the cv joints on both my front wheels are gone I think, basically when I turn the wheels at slow speeds ( i.e. at a carpark ) there is serious grinding and knocking noises coming from the wheels.
So the first question I guess is, am I right in my prognoses.
Secondly my car is on the way out and really isn't worth much, I need to get it to last me until July, I drive 10 miles a day to the train station.
Is there anything I can do like a quick fix to see me out without having to replace both C.V. joints which I guess will cost at least 300 to replace.
I would also like to point out that I'm a mature student doing a masters and I literally have no money to spare until the summer.

    Hi,

This has worked for me in the past on a few bangers i've had.

    http://www.ebay.ie/sch/CV-Joints-Parts-/33729/i.html

Get the kit with the cone too :)

Once i hear the joint click(loss of grease) order this.

No a major job if your handy with a few spanners.

Clean and repack the joint and you'll then be clicking free.

    Good luck.

It's probably the CV joints yeah.
Is it when turning in both directions or just one?

Jack the car up and have a look, do the boots look ripped? Even a small hole will dry out the joint so take a good look.

If so they should be replaced, if not you can get a mechanic open it and squirt more grease in there and see if that helps. You can also re-grease DIY, if you're handy.

Is there any knocking sound at all when driving straight?

CV joints have the potential to lock up if not fixed, so you should have someone look at it soon. It might even be free to get it diagnosed.

There is no sound when driving straight and not even when I'm turning at speed, there is noise when turning both directions. The noise only happens at junctions

Could be cv joint(s), or could be something else, impossible to know without seeing or hearing. If it is the cv joints, and they're doing serious grinding and knocking they're for the bin, new ones needed for sure. I put two cv joints and two cv boots into a corolla this morning 140 for the parts and 80 to fit them.
