    Is anyone watching this?

    It's on MTV

    It is absolutely grotesque.

How can these people put themselves through this?

Caught up on it from the US... typical MTV reality-dreck but goddamn, it's much more entertaining than the likes of Teen Mom etc.

Think it's mainly due to how likable the leads are - Nev and Max.

I don't think they're likeable; I think they are manipulative.

I haven't seen or heard of any previous episodes; what I've just seen (caught the last 15 minutes) was extremely difficult to watch.

Am i just being very cynical?

Who are they manipulating? They're largely just observers who do some investigation on behalf of the person who comes to them.

They largely stand back when that person is confronted with the truth... they issue advice when necessary but never do they egg anyone on.

In truth - it's scripted reality TV so you need to take everything with a pinch of salt.. but it's entertaining in a car-crash kinda way!

Not gonna lie. I love it - its a guilty pleasure. And as Basq said, Nev and Max very likeable - I wish they were my mates...

I watched the Documentary where Nev was the mark.

    I hated him in that.

Ditto. As a rule I normally avoid everything on mtv, its just the lowest common denominator right across the board. But I had seen catfish the movie so out of curiousity I decided to check out the tv show. Definitely falls under the guilty pleasure category. Car crash tv but gripping stuff all the same. It just shows you how desperate and how lost in denial people can be when they dont even see that who they're supposedly in a relationship is a bandit. Think Nev and max do a good job and are pretty genuine.

Totally agree. It's so bad it's good. I am ashamed to say I save up a few and watch them in bursts. I play a game called 'same-sex or uggo'; I have a good record.
