would be trying to cover a distance of 150m, i've electricity out at the sheds but no phoneline.
does anyone have one in, are they a good job? n could they recommend a lad that does them. thanks

Try this link. Ive one of these working in the tool shed. When the beam is broken, the alarm goes off and it rings and texts us. You have to buy a sim for it but probably is what you are looking for.

O2 best sim to get cause it doesn't lock after 6 months and it would be just standard text charge think 11cent

You get charged if it goes off and texts / rings you. All at the standard rate. a tenner has done us nearly a year now.

    Hi there.
Got a beam alam about a year ago. The beam goes across the yard. Units are solar powered and work fine. Kit came with a door contact and pir sensor also. Put sim card in the back and that was it. I think they fit them as well if you wanted.
    Got it from

    [SNIP]

    Please don't shill

Are you better off having a silent alarm , or lights and siren going off as well as the text alert...
Would it go off every time a cat crosses the yard ?? Or do you set the height of the beam?
I suppose you'd be less likely to have all the cows out the yard and down the road too ....

I set mine up at waist height. Let the dog under! I leave the siren on on mine. I'd rather the person get scared off than go any further.
I can set it to turn on lights as well if i wanted but i never bothered.

I was looking at one for the factory where I work and its a double beam that was being recommended so that a cat, dog bird etc couldn't break it as you have to break the two beams together.

I have the one with the double beam. I don't get any false alarms. When its set at waist height, birds are the only issue. And they won't break the two beams.

birds birds birds.... only issue really with the single beam.. have one set up that just latchs a relay for about a minute each time its triggered... signal wire about 150+m to the house and after that you can set up anything you want.. i.e chime... light... cuckoo clock. Down side to our set up is it needs to be reset after each alarm... but its worth getting up to have a look anyway.
expect 1 or 2 false alarms per week esp during the summer months... but when you catch a live one its worth it. best crack is when a bunch of bullocks are making their way to the road gate only to be met by us waiting cause they set off the alarm on the way...
you also have to be a bit smart with what you park in the yard and where you park it... other than that they are a gift of a job...

So in short if your away alot... sim is prob best job... if not just keep it simple.

Nothing like that here but I do have 2 lights that work of a photocell and luminate the whole yard when it gets dark and automatically go off when it gets dark

Think anyone that broke into my yard would feel sorry for me and leave something behind them

Fitted one a good few years ago, siren and floodlights come on, siren is on an isolation switch at the house, and it's wired to a timer, so goes off after a pre-set time. It was set off a few months ago late at night and I saw the hooded gurrier legging it, frightened the sh!t out of the fceker. Noise and lights are enough of a deterrent imo.

Only problem I have is in frosty weather, it must be freezing up the innards and waking me in the middle of the night, may be after the good summer it's well dried out now.
