Lads,im looking for a cheap graphics card, what would ye suggest?

Its for a friends pc without a hdmi output to hook up to a hd tv without a vga input.

    Hes hoping to run xbmc.

Can all desktop pcs accept a hdmi card?

Would a vga to hdmi converter be a better option?

    Thanks

I'd definitely go with the graphics card option. I'm not too familiar with the ATI options (though probably a HD 5450), but on the Nvidia side a Geforce 210 should be more than enough. I wouldn't go with any earlier models than that though, previous generations didn't have a build in sound card.

The computer should accept it provided it is new enough to have PCIe slots (and has an unused slot plus a second free slot beside it as most of these cards would be passively cooled dual slot cards).

Any suggestions or links on which one to buy?
    (lower cost the better)

I have had this in my HTPC for the last year or so... brilliant price at the moment (£23) it was £40 when i bought it and is silent.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/VTX3D-Radeon-Graphics-Profile-Bracket/dp/B0042UK9Q4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1361308796&sr=8-1

Just make sure you have a spare PCI Express slot.

Plug and play without all the farting about setting it up. I use the HDMI of the graphics card direct to the TV.

    Good luck with the build.
