What are the best core training skills for a job?

I have my degree from college but after 3 years of full time work experience, I applied for and completed an advanced IT skills course which comes in handy with the report writing aspect of my job. My question is, how important is it to update your skills out of work, is it looked down on by employers if you "just" have work experience and no courses like First Aif, IT etc to keep you fresh outside of that? Im looking to buff up my CV with core skills courses but Im not really interested in gaining a masters by night back at college or anything like that.

Any thoughts on this, is work experience alone enough to stand out or do you need a raft of other courses, volunteer work etc to catch the eye?
