Hi what is the treatment for VAT in renting out rooms to Artist's/Photographers to work in? Is it necessary to charge VAT or is it exempt? The business is not VAT registered at present.

    Many thanks!!

If you are not VAT registered you do not charge VAT to anyone. Period.

And if I was VAT registered would there be VAT on this transaction? I'm asking this as we may register for VAT and this relates to rental of property and not the supply of a good/service.

VAT on property is a highly complex area and boards is not the place for this. Seek professional advice because if you are incorrect in your VAT treatment, the consequences could be significant.
