Willing to work for free, but on my terms!

Hi all, I have over 10 years experience in Estimating and Purchasing, mainly in a traditional manufacturing environment. I have now been out of work for 8 months and am struggling to find a new role. I have managed to get a few interviews but have been told that I have either too much experience for some jobs or not enough for others! As I am looking after the children in the afternoons I cannot enter the springboard program or avail of an internship but I would be more than willing to offer my services working for FREE on a part time basis (9-1, 5 days/wk) to get back out there. I consider that I have a lot to offer and my skills are going to waste, surely there's a company out there who could benefit from my services!, any suggestions?!

Identify some companies you would like to work for, identify some connection you have to someone working there (use LinkedIn), and approach them.

Hint: you need to think through what's in it for the company and for you. If you're working for free, then you need to be learning or getting experience in something new, not just doing more of what you know.
