    Hi All,

Does anyone have any experience with these slates - Tegral ThruTone Plus Vs Capco Berona Xtra 20? They both come with a 30 year structural warranty and 20 year colour guarantee. I’ve narrowed the slate that I’m going to use on my roof to these and I’m just wondering if price should be my only consideration at this stage – i.e. both slates are equally as good as each other, both suited to our weather, etc. Thanks

I had the same decision to make on my build, between the ThruTone Plus and Berona Xtra. I wanted to go with the Tegral Slates initially as they were a local company, but I was persuaded to go with the Capco slates by my roofer. He had build he own house within the past few years and used the ThruTone Plus. Within 1 year he had to have the whole roof replaced due to bleaching and bowing of the slates. It may have been a bad batch but the roofer said the Capco were easier to work with, not as brittle as the Tegral slates

I managed to get my slates for €1.10 ea and the ridge caps for €8.60ea

I had the reverse where capco slates went white after a year or two. I have used thrutone since and found them fine, to work with and with how they lasted. I have heard people bitching about thrutone but you'll find the same for any fibre cement slates.

If you have it narrowed down to the 2, there's probably little to distinguish from them in terms of quality so you could probably pick whichever you get chaeper.

Do a search through the forums here on capco and tegral. There is good feedback on both.

Would love to know where and who you got 1.10 per slate from.

Planning a new roof and this slate business is so confusing.

    Thanks.

I am a builder from limerick and i have stopped using tegral slates the last few years because of them cuping. ie. the corners lifting. have been using capco berona and berona extra and have yet to see this happen with them.
They both have 20 year colour guarentee and 30 year structural (tegral thrutone and berona extra that is)

Im a carpentry contractor. I have had the same problems with cupping of the tegral slates. The edges of the tegrals seem to faid after 3 or 4 years. Never had a problem with the borona slates. Seem to stay lying flat and looking new for longer. I would always use borona if it was my choice.

I'm making this decision in the next few months and just wondered what peoples experience of these have been. If you want to PM, work away. Would appreciate any comments/feedback.
