Im going to be painting my bedrooms a light brownish color like the attached picture. However I want the Coving and ceiling rose plaster-work to stand out but not too much. I tested a wall with the light brown color on the wall and a cream paint on the coving but it just looks like the white ceiling paint is on the coving the difference between the cream coving and white ceiling is barely noticeable.
Might anyone suggest a color for the coving and ceiling rose's that isnt too overbearing? I was thinking a dull yellow possibly,

Personally, I think that painting the ceiling rose and coving anything other than white is a mistake, let the texture and different light and shade on the levels do the work. Painting them an off-white will only make them look like they are smoke stained and they need to be painted imo.
There is nothing quite like crisp white ceilings and plasterwork in a properly furnished and finished room. Conventional but foolproof.

    coving in white looks classy.

make at least one of the walls in each room as a feature wall with a different colour paint or a feature wallpaper.

But keep the coving painted white.

You could use a mix of your wall paint and white to have a lighter but similar colour for the ceiling rose, trial and error will get you the mix you think looks best. You could do the same for the coving but I agree with the lads not to have the coving a different colour from the ceiling unless your putting a colour on the ceiling..
But I do like a picked out ceiling rose, makes more of a feature out of it..
If you do decide to put a colour on the coving do that 1st, its easier that way. The rose can be done last, might need to touch up the white if you hit the ceiling but that takes no time at all..

Sorry, but a dull yellow would look terrible. I like the idea of painting doors, skirting, ceilings, etc. in colours other than white. However, white is the only way to go with coving.
