Your map doesn't work for me but even if you go from Ranelagh down to the canal and then back up at Kylemore you are almost certainly going to be faster cycling. The red line from the city centre to Inchicore is pretty slow because it has to share with cars. It picks up speed after that, so if you were going all the way to Tallaght there might be an argument to be made.

As far as Kylemore though....take the bike.

Definitely bike. The red line will only get you to city centre (prob 20-30 mins - never timed it but it takes ages).. Then it's either bus to Ranelagh or the green line luas which is a 20 min walk away. Even a gentle cycle will have you in Ranelagh in 25 mins from Kylemore

OP -- have you tried it out yet by Luas or by bicycle yet?

It depends on exactly where you're traveling to and from, but you're looking at around 30-40mins by bicycle.

There's a few roads you can take depending on where exactly you are going to/from and your personal preference.

By bike it's maximum 20-25 minutes.

Get out on your own bike and see how the route feels personally?

By bike it's maximum 20-25 minutes.

It's around 8-9km give or take, and average cycling speeds inside the M50 is 14km/h.

If the distance is 8km than you're talking about 34mins at the average speed of 14km/h, at +2km/h 30mins or at -2km/h 40mins.
