Where do all my emails go

When I delete my emails, posts, blogs where do all go to, everyday there must be billions of posts and emails getting deleted, Are they floating around somewhere waiting for a space postman to read them ?
So where did the deleted emails go?

If it's a gmail account, they don't do anywhere, google retains them forever.

Did you know that by sending work emails can generate on a rough average of 136kg of CO2 per year per employee.:eek:

I can only imagine that deleting them would probably cause half that amount.:eek:

This reminds me of a story a friend of mine told me. His mother wasn't sure how to delete files, she thought they were stored inside the pc in a very real and physical form. So in order to delete things she would cut and paste them onto a floppy and dump them in the bin.
