Acer Aspire Laptop and Steam Software

At Christmas my Brother got Football Manager for the Laptop. This game needed steam software to be downloaded in order for it to work. It would not download so he brought it to computer shop and they applied it. However ever since the laptop speeds have been significantly reduced. Watching Videos on Youtube take forever and just loading Websites takes 4 or 5 times the length it used to. Used to be able to download several music albums at one time but now it takes 4 or 5 hours to download even 1. Thinking of bringing it back to the shop to see if they can fix it but in the meantime any advice on what the issue might be would be appeciated. Internet is currently served by WiFi connection in a box in 1 of the bedrooms.:eek::P

The first thing I would try is to connect it directly to the router with a cable and see how it performs.

There are numerous factors affecting wireless communication.

Have you simply tried shutting off Steam while you watch online video?

acer aspire laptops suck for gaming... they lack a decent cpu (intel atom is crap for gaming), they have a crap gpu and they usually only have 1gb ram and can only have 2gb max

my guess is that the ram on the acer laptop is probably only 1gb and steam is using a fairly big portion of it... as acer aspire laptops only have 1 ram slot you can only upgrade it to 2gb max. it will run better but dont expect it to be a huge difference.

The aspire line is huge. I sell an aspire m5 with touch screen, i5 and 6gb ram.
