Grey import vs Second-Hand

    Hi.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with so called "grey imports" such as ProCameraShop, FlashCamera, SimplyElectronics?

Prices for brand new equipment are sometimes even better than asking prices on adverts.ie for used stuff.
These shops have 5d mk ii for around 1350 euro, and there are people on adverts.ie looking for upwards of 1250 for used ones.
Likewise, 1600 euro for a 6d is very tempting indeed.

Seems like there's a few quid to be saved going this route but if the camera has a problem are you skrewed?

You don't have much of a come back buying second hand either. Canon only offer a 2 year warranty I think and a lot of second hands would be outside of this.

As in the other thread, I can't recommend Ian Kerr (Flash Camera) highly enough.

you can buy refurbished cameras off of canon's website from the states. ex delivery you can pick up a 5d mk2 body for about a grand.

    No you can't

Sorry but $1759.00 is about €1,350.00. Where did you get your grand?

Also they don’t ship to Ireland. Also even if they did there would be no warrantee with it as Canon doesn’t continue a warrantee across world zones.

This is bad and in accurate information.

Ian Kerr seems to be the place for cheap grey imports. 1330 approx for a 5d2 at the moment.

I ended up getting a second hand 5d mk ii for 1100 but it was a close call. Lots of people still trying to get 1300+ for their 5d2s on adverts..

Got an email about a refund today.

"we have a policy that payment have to be Seller protected and to a confirmed address"...

I think the confirmed address is about my Paypal being too be verified.. But any ideas about the Seller protection thing?

Tried to re-order with standard Visa card, but they seem to be only accepting cheques or bank transfers. Bit frustrating to be honest.

Also sounds a little dodgy. They will only accept payment methods that won't protect you in the event of a problem.

Drop them a mail or give them a call to clarify Id say. They respond quite quickly

In the end I ordered the same lens for an extra tenner from Pixmania, hassle-free.
